The Yang Tui-Na Style, founded by Steven Yang, is a composition of many different tui-na techniques used to deliver optimized client results in a specific duration. HOW DOES IT WORK?
Tui-na is considered as one of the earliest therapies used for  healing and curing ailments of the human body. Tui-na uses a combination of manipulations, standardized skillful actions that stimulate body surface or move the limbs or trunks of the patient with their hands or other body parts, as it main therapeutic procedure. The essence of Tui-na manipulations is external force, which can be classified into 2 phylums on the basis of the action of external force. They are pressing (means to restrain, to press skin and muscle) and rectifying (means to move limb quickly). The pressing force impacts directly on the local tissues and the rectifying force transmits to the distant joint, muscles, tendons, and other parts of the body. Each phylum can be divided into categories according to their motion features. They can also be classified according to their effect processes: stimulating manipulations (or reflection manipulation abroad), rectifying manipulations, and mobilizing manipulations.
Most manipulations of the "Pressing skin and muscle" belongs to the stimulating manipulation. The stimulating manipulations don't directly relay on their force to remove illness and make recovery. But they act on the channel system and then through its medium to promote the intrinsic adjusting and self-curing functions of life to prevent or to heal disease. Thus, the stimulating manipulations must tally with endurable, forceful, regular, gentle, and penetrable requirements. Endurable implies that the manipulations must be correctly handled for a long time according to specific rules. Forceful means that in a given range, the quantity (varies according to patient's condition and characteristics) of manipulation force is direct proportion with the stimulating intensity to the channel system. Regular means that the motion of manipulations must have rhythm. The velocity can't be sometimes fast, sometimes slow. The force can't be sometimes heavy, sometimes light. The so-called "gentle" refers to the patterns of delivering force. The force, which is varied smoothly and slowly, is gentler than those varied violently and quickly. The touch styles with a soft flexible tissue such as palm are gentler than those with a hard, inflexible tissue such as bone. "Penetrable" refers to apply all skillful manipulation to reduce the tension of human living tissues so that the resistance of the tissues would be cut down and the manipulation force could act into deep issue. |
